CHANCES
She thought he was
He wasn’t
He said she was
She wasn’t
He wore her down
Day after day
Needing and wanting
Not knowing her
She pushed him away
With razored words
And withering looks
Not knowing him
He feared aloneness
No courage to say
I don’t love you, I’m leaving
It’s better this way
She feared failure
No strength to say
I can’t love you, I’m leaving
There’s no more to say
Instead he lied and cheated, found
Some one new
She looked away, pretended she
Hadn’t a clue
No more chances to try
It was clearly a chore
He left just like that
A coat and a hat
Little more did he take
Out the door.
